"Renewing the Covenant"

January 1, 2012
Jeremiah 31:31-33
31 The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. 32It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord. 33But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
I Peter 1:3-4, 13-16
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
13 Therefore prepare your minds for action; discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed. 14Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance. 15Instead, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; 16for it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’
COVENANT RENEWAL SERVICE 1JAN2012
Our Covenant Prayer
ALL: O righteous God, for the sake of your son Jesus Christ, See me as I fall down before you.
Forgive my unfaithfulness in not doing your will, for you have promised mercy to me if I turn to you with my whole heart.
LEADER: God requires us to turn away from the things which distract us from God’s great love.
ALL: With all my heart I renounce them all, making a covenant with you that I will not allow sin in my life willingly. In your power I will watch for the temptations which lead me
Away from you. My own righteousness is riddled with sin, unable to stand before You.
LEADER: Through Christ, God has offered to be our God again, if we will
let him.
ALL: Before heaven and earth, I here recognize you as my Lord and my God. Father, Son and Holy Spirit, you are all I need, and I vow to give myself up, body and soul, as your servant, to serve you in holiness and righteousness all the days of my life.
LEADER: God has given the Lord Jesus Christ as the only way and means of
Coming to God.
ALL: I accept Christ as the only new and living Way and join in a
covenant with him. I come to you, Jesus, unworthy even to wash the feet of your
Servants. With all my power I accept you as my Lord and Leader.
I renounce my own worthiness, and vow that you are my
righteousness. I renounce my own wisdom, and take you for my only guide.
LEADER: Christ has told us that we must suffer with him.
ALL: I make my covenant with you, O Christ, to take my lot with you as it may fall.
Through your grace I promise that nothing shall part me from you.
LEADER: God has given us holy laws as the rule of our lives.
ALL: I do here willingly accept your laws as holy, just and good. I take them as the rule for my words, thoughts, and actions, promising that I will strive to order my whole life according to Your direction, and not neglecting whatever is my duty.
LEADER: God searches and knows our hearts.
ALL: O God, you know that I make this covenant with you today without reservation.
If there is any falsehood in it, guide me to make it right. Glory be to you, O God the Father!
From this day forward I shall look upon you as my God and Father. Glory be to you, O God the Son!
You have loved me and washed me of my sins in your own blood, and now you are my Savior and Redeemer. Glory be to you, O God the Holy Spirit!
By your mighty power you have turned my heart from sin to God.
Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, you have now become my Covenant Friend.
Through your infinite grace, I have become your covenant servant.
Let the covenant I have made on earth be ratified in heaven.
AMEN!!
