The mission of the Church Garden is to grow delicious, nutritious, fresh herbs and vegetables to support the feeding ministries of the church. The work of the garden will be performed by volunteers from within the congregation, including the youth group. The garden is located across the parking lot from the Beacon Life Center.

Bed number 2 is complete! It is put together just like bed number one. We have a path between the two beds. We’ve added garden soil mix (the Jesus mix!), and our beds are already productive: they both have produced a ton of weeds! After removing the weeds, we’ve planted our first plants and seeds! We have planted the following plants: tomatoes, peppers, and collards. In addition, we have also planted the following seeds: kale, lettuce, onion, oregano, parsley, radish, rosemary, and spinach. The radish and lettuce seeds have sprouted!

All are welcome to come visit the garden to marvel at what God has been able to accomplish. We also encourage you to pray over the garden project, and pray for all of the people who will benefit from our efforts. All we ask is that during your visit to please, please, please do not walk in the garden beds themselves.

With the approval of the Finance Committee, we are looking for sponsors to step out in faith and sponsor one square foot of garden space for ten dollars ($10). You may sponsor more than one square foot if you feel led to do so. Donations may be made by including it with your Sunday offering. Indicate on your envelope or your check how much is for your   offering and how much is for the garden. So far, we have 12 square feet of garden space sponsored.

Your sponsorship will provide for the initial supplies to create your square foot of garden bed and the initial planting of herbs and/or vegetables. The garden beds themselves will consist of a mix of peat moss, vermiculite, manure, garden soil, and various other soil amendments.

We look forward to your prayerful consideration in support of this worthwhile ministry.  Your support will feed the hungry, provide the youth with an opportunity to serve, and help beautify the church grounds.

Thank you,

Rich Moran, United Methodist Men,
