The mission of the Church Garden is to grow delicious fresh herbs and vegetables to support the feeding ministries of the church. The work of the garden will be performed by volunteers from within the congregation, including the youth group. The garden is located across the parking lot from the Beacon Life Center.
We are blessed by a gracious and loving God, and a generous congregation. We have received dozens of cardboard boxes, shredded paper and newspaper. Thank you!!! Donations of these items are still welcome. We had a crew of volunteers deliver 152 cinder blocks to the garden area. We have a workday planned to layout the cinder blocks that will form the walls of the raised beds.
The Church Garden will consist of four (4) raised planting beds. Each raised bed will be four (4) feet wide and twenty (20) feet long. In total, there will be three hundred and twenty (320) square feet of growing space. With the approval of the Finance Committee, we are looking for sponsors to step out in faith and sponsor one square foot of garden space for ten dollars ($10). You may sponsor more than one square foot if you feel led to do so. Donations may be made by including it with your Sunday offering. Indicate on your envelope or your check how much is for your offering and how much is for the Garden.
Your sponsorship will provide for the initial supplies to create your square foot of garden bed and the initial planting of herbs and/or vegetables. The garden beds themselves will consist of a mix of peat moss, vermiculite, manure, garden soil, and various other soil amendments.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANY GARDENING AT ALL!
All of the gardening will be done by volunteers from within the congregation, including the youth group. Additional expertise will be provided by the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS).
We look forward to your prayerful consideration in support of this worthwhile ministry. Your support will feed the hungry, provide the youth with an opportunity to serve, and help beautify the church grounds.
